Basant Utsav – 2012
Anjuman Sair-e-Gul Faroshan celebrates Basant Panchami, Festival of communal harmony. Members of Anjuman walk through Chandani Chowk with floral pankhaas with images of Hindu Goddess and sacred Kaba, made in yellow flowers. All are wearing saffron colored safas (Turban) & adorned with garland of yellow flowers. Tradionaly on Basant Panchami everybody wears cloths in yellow color and offer flowers of sarson (mustard blossom), to Devi Saraswati who is the goddess of learning. In Delhi sarson flowers are offered at the mazar of Sufi saints.
Members of Anjuman celebrates this day as festival of communal harmony and go together irrespective of the religion they follow to offer chatra ( canopy) made of yellow flowers with sarson flowers ( mustard blossom) at the Devi Saraswati , the goddess of earning. They walk through the historic Chandani Chowk opposite the Red Fort with the tradition al Shehnai players and their accomplished Dhol tasha players and make offerings at the feet of Devi Saraswati in the historic temple of known as Gauri Shankar Mandir.
After making offerings at Gauri Shankar Mandir in the Chandani Chowk they proceed to Nizamuddin and with the same fan fare offer chadar made of yellow flowers at the mazar of Sufi saint Hazarat Nizamuddin Aulia and the famous poet and contemporary of Hazart Nizammudin Amir Khusro.
